What we do
CapeYorkFishing.com.au helps visiting anglers plan fishing trips to Cape York Peninsula. We publish guides to fishing spots such as Weipa, Seisia and Cooktown, to target species such as barramundi, mangrove jack and Spanish mackerel, and to the practical side of a trip: the rules, closed seasons, crocodile safety and getting there. Our season checker summarises the key barramundi closures and seasonal warnings for each month.
About this domain
capeyorkfishing.com.au previously hosted other websites, including a fishing charter business. Those sites stopped operating, and the domain was relaunched in 2026 as an independent guide. Every page has been written from scratch. We are not connected with any previous operator of this domain, and we do not run charters, take bookings or sell fishing trips.
Independence
CapeYorkFishing.com.au is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by Fisheries Queensland, the Department of Primary Industries, the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, the Protected Zone Joint Authority, any council, land trust or Traditional Owner corporation, any fishing charter or business with a similar name. Nothing on this site is legal advice. For official rules, permits and closures, always use the official websites.
How we research
We base our guides on official sources, especially the Queensland Government's recreational fishing rules, closed seasons and Be Crocwise pages, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the Protected Zone Joint Authority, plus reputable reference works on geography, history and fish biology. Each guide lists its sources and the date it was last updated. We do not invent statistics, prices, catch reports or quotes. Fishing rules change, so we encourage you to confirm the current rules in the Qld Fishing 2.0 app before every trip.
Respect for Country
Cape York is the Country of many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with living cultures and deep connections to land and sea. We encourage every visitor to respect Traditional Owners, follow access and permit requirements, and leave places as they found them.
How we are funded
Nobody can pay to change our guides. Some pages may carry clearly labelled affiliate links for tackle, tours or accommodation, or labelled sponsored placements. Our editorial policy explains how we make money. To get in touch, use our contact page.
